I can’t remember the last movie that made me cry but I distinctly remember Rintaro’s Metropolis (2001) getting me choked up at the end. Maybe its the high chaotic energy of the ending, everything building up to a violent revolution that sees innocent characters trampled and the misguided youth tearing everything down in a futile attempt to seek approval from a father figure that was never truly there for them and amongst it all is just a simple story about a machine who was uncertain of their true sense of a “humanity” and a boy that wishes to help them. Its just overwhelming and too much.
Now if you want to talk about miniseries, I’ll talk about Pluto. I bawled during certain episodes but that’s what a Naoki Urasawa joint will do to you: mess you up emotionally but ESPECIALLY Pluto.
